Sophomore Advising

Sopfhomore Advising

The objective of sophomore advising is to assist students in immersing themselves more fully in the intellectual life of the university, in taking advantage of the range of academic opportunities at their disposal, and in choosing their concentration.  Because holistic advising goes beyond the strictly academic, sophomore advisors build advising relationships with their advisees to support them in all aspects of their College experience.  As such, sophomore advisors help students to transition to residential life in their Houses in addition to supporting their academic well‐being broadly construed.  In regular meetings throughout the year, advisors engage students in meaningful conversations about their intellectual, social, and personal experiences in the College.

At Pforzheimer House, all sophomore advisors are resident tutors or live-in house “pfellows.” With the mission of holistic advising in mind, students are hand matched with advisors based on a range of interests including academic field, postgraduate plans, and personal and extracurricular interests.

The Sophomore Advising Coordinator, Marie Mize (marie_mize@harvard.edu), is available to meet to discuss anything related to your sophomore year or sophomore advising.  Her Cookies & Milk Office Hours are by appointment on Sunday-Thursday from 8-10pm.  Please sign up for a time to meet here: bit.ly/MarieMize.  If you are not available during her office hours, you can email Marie directly in order to work out a time that better suits your schedule.
