CARE

Consent Advocacy & Relationship Education Tutors make education programming and outreach events on gender, sexuality, and violence prevention available to their house communities. We are eager to tailor outreach events to students’ needs & interests and are therefore always happy to hear their ideas about house specific programming. CARE Tutors are also a resource for students who have, at any point in their lives, experienced interpersonal violence. They are knowledgeable about campus resources, the University-wide Title IX policy and are committed to assuring students’ access to support services on or off campus. Every house has a Lead CARE Tutor and one or more Support CARE Tutors. Lead CARE Tutors receive regular supervision and training by the Office of Sexual Assault Prevention & Response.

The mission of CARE tutors and allies is twofold. The first is to make loud and clear how unacceptable rape, sexual assault and sexual harassment are in our community, and to foster healthy discussion about gender, relationships, and sexuality. The second (and perhaps less obvious) mission is to promote sexual empowerment: the ability to make informed choices about our own sexuality (and to respect the choices of others), and to never to let those choices be made for us. Whether you choose to abstain from sex, enthusiastically consent to it, or anything in between, the choice is yours and yours alone.

Your Pfoho CARE team works closely with the Harvard Office of Sexual Assault Prevention & Response (OSAPR) to establish a welcoming House-based educational program aimed at increasing student awareness of the issues related to sexual assault and harassment, and to encourage positive and healthy relationship norms within the College.

Allied in our efforts to promote everyone's right to be treated with respect, equality, and dignity, we work shoulder-to-shoulder with Pfoho’s Health/Wellness, BGLTQA, and Race Relations tutors to organize events that offer opportunities for self-care, empowerment, discovery, and open conversation about who you are.

More than anything, we want you to know that you can talk to the CARE Tutors about whatever's on your mind. From dating advice to incidents or concerns related to sexual harassment or assault, we are here and always ready to talk and to help you access the resources that you need. Please reach out.

Yours,

The Pfoho CARE Team

Preventing violence comes through education, personal and collective accountability, and social change. You can always approach or contact one of your tutors for help or more information, but there are several other campus resources at your disposal.

******* Please note, the Office of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (OSAPR) is committed to supporting and empowering survivors of violence. OSAPR runs a 24-Hour Information/Support Line at (617) 495-9100. All assistance is confidential. Calling DOES NOT initiate an official university complaint--that choice is up to you. *********
