Hello Pfoho! Although originally from Miami, Florida, I have lived in Massachusetts since I came to Amherst College in 2003. I am a first-generation college student, meaning that I was the first in my family to go to college. I fell in love with the classroom and decided not to leave it. I came to Harvard in 2008 for my Ph.D. and graduated in 2016. I am now a Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society of Fellows and an Assistant Professor of Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. My first book, The Privileged Poor, explores what does it mean to be a poor student on a rich campus. It was an honor to work with Deans Rakesh Khurana and Sheila Thimba on opening the dining halls during Spring Break here at Harvard in 2015 and other initiatives since then to make Harvard more of an inclusive community. I hope to continue combining my academic work with real world changes on college campuses. I love all things James Baldwin, Gloria Naylor, Toni Morrison, and J. K. Rowling. (#Ravenclaw)
