Hi Pfoho! I’m excited to be a returning tutor this coming year! My name is Jose and I’m a Peruvian cellist. My wife Julie, our two daughters, Maya and Elena, and I are looking forward to getting to know you all.

I have a bachelor’s degree in cello performance from the Peruvian National Conservatory and a master’s degree in cello performance from the Boston Conservatory. Prior to coming to the US for grad school, I was a cellist in the Peruvian National Symphony. I also played in chamber music groups, and taught cello in a university as well as in a non-profit organization for youth from disadvantaged neighborhoods.

I love all kinds of music. I have played the guitar since I was a kid and played in rock bands. I also composed my own album, En Camino, that combines the cello with jazz, rock, and traditional Peruvian rhythms. I also love to travel, bike and share Peruvian food.

I’m excited to share with you all my love for music as the music tutor. Keep an eye on the activities that we will hold this year, such as guitar and ukulele workshops, chamber music coaching and performances, music listening nights, and more.
