Hello, Pfoho! My name is Abi Mariam and I'm really excited to be a part of this community. Originally from Southern California, I attended Harvard as an undergraduate studying Government and graduated in 2015. I am currently a third year PhD. student in the Sociology and Social Policy program through HKS/GSAS. My current research interests are housing insecurity, urban poverty, neighborhood disinvestment, and inequality. Before starting my graduate program, I was working in local government, as an aide to Alameda County Supervisor Keith Carson, where I was running office communications and assisting with housing policy.

As a tutor, I am looking forward to working with students and other members of our House community in areas of public service, creative/academic writing, and social science research. I am also the House Concentration Adviser for Sociology—if you would like to learn more about this concentration, please let me know. As Harvard students and affiliates, we have an abundance of opportunities available to us—I am excited to see the ways in which we can work together to share those opportunities with our local community and beyond.
